Description Rural
   
Location This electorate includes the rural area to the north of Darwin.
   
Origin The electorate is believed to derive its name from the former Territory Member H G Nelson, who gained voting rights for the local Federal Member in 1922. His son, J N Nelson, was a Labor MP in the Federal Parliament from 1949 and became Administrator of the Northern Territory in 1975.
