Location The electorate of Katherine takes in most of the town of Katherine, as well as the RAAF Tindal Airbase.
   
Origin The electorate and town derive their name from the Katherine River, applied by McDougall Stuart in 1862, after Catherine Chambers - the daughter of a SA pastoralist, James Chambers, who supported his expedition.
