Location
| Blain covers the south-east of Darwin, and is based on the previous electorate of Palmerson. It takes in the Palmerston suburbs of Moulden, Roseberry, Woodroffe and part of Driver. |

Origin
| The electorate was named after Adair MacAlister Blain, who was elected to the Federal House of Representatives in 1934. During World War II, he was captured by the Japanese in 1942 at the fall of Singapore, becoming the only serving member of the House of Representatives to be a prisoner of war. |
