Location
| Arafura encompasses the north-west section of Arnhem Land, in the Territory's north, and includes the towns of Cooinda, Jabiru, Maningrida and Warruwi, and Bathurst and Melville Islands in the Timor Sea. |

Origin
| The electorate takes its name from the Arafura Sea which abuts the Division on the northern coast and islands. Arafura was a name given by the Dutch in 1827 to the sea to Australia's north, including the Spice Islands (Indonesia). It also refers to the mountain people of the Moluccan Islands. |
