Description Rural
   
Location The electorate extends from its main population centre, Port Augusta, across pastoral lease and Crown lands to its northern border with the Northern Territory and Queensland, and east to the border with New South Wales.
   
Origin Named after the explorer John MacDougall Stuart (1815-1866), who, between 1860 and 1862, travelled through a ring of salt lakes in the course of developing a route from South Australia to the Northern Territory.
