Location Molonglo covers the central and northern parts of the ACT, including Canberra City, the Commonwealth Parliament and government offices (including the National Library and National Gallery), the regional areas of Gungahlin, Jerrabombera, Woden Valley and Weston Creek, the light industrial areas of Mitchell, Fyshwick and Hume, and the Canberra Airport. It also includes the Australian National University, the Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College Duntroon, and the Canberra Institute of Technology. To its east is the NSW town of Queanbeyan.

Origin The name Molonglo is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning like the sound of thunder, and is also the name of the river flowing through the centre of Canberra, which was dammed to form Lake Burley-Griffin, according to the Architect's original designs. The names for the ACT's electorates were chosen in 1993 with the view that, it being the International Year of the World's Indigenous Peoples, they be given local Aboriginal names.
