Location
Ginninderra covers the Canberra suburbs of the Belconnen region, including the University of Canberra, the Canberra Institute of Technology, and the Australian Institute of Sport. In its north-western corner is the rural town of Hall.

Origin
The name Ginninderra is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning sparkling like the stars, and is also the name of the creek which flows through Belconnen, later dammed to form Lake Ginninderra near the Belconnen town centre. The names for the ACT's electorates were chosen in 1993 with the view that, it being the International Year of the World's Indigenous Peoples, they be given local Aboriginal names.
